* Never buy processed foods. Frozen meals, heavily packaged products etc a big no-no! Basically it isn't real food, usually expensive when you make your own healthier and tastier version. Bottled tomato pasta sauces are an excellent example of this. Waaaay too much salt and costly. A can of tomatoes, chopped for example costs less than half a euro (less than 50p GBP) I like to make my own tomato sauces with garlic cloves blitzed in a blender and herbs and of course good olive oil!!!
* Make up and plan food before hand to stock in the fridge and stop you reaching for the biscuits (don't buy biscuits fullstops). Homemade hummus, homemade kidney bean dip etc are get to have on standby when you have the munchies. Apples are one of my favourite foods.
* NO TAKEAWAYS! Never. Ever.
* Learn to cook! Self explanatory really. After coming to live in the U.K last year it continually astonishes me just how many British cannot cook, not even basic dishes. I think this is why there seems to be a national addiction to fast food and takeaways. Basic cooking skills in a society usually taught through parents and grandparents in family life goes a long way in reducing the consumption of junk food and therefore a lower obesity rate.
